Well here is my first offering. Found this website makes all sort of book themed gifts ranging from clips to flasks to bookmarkers and even tampon holders(although I am not too sure about that last one lol.)
You can find the site at: http://www.kyledesigns.com/category/14_personalized_gifts.04_gift_ideas_themed.book_gifts/

The other thing I would suggest is bookmarkers. These come in all shapes, sizes, materials, themes. They range from very elaborate to very simple...and i figure if you give a more simple kind then you can pair it with something else. You can check any company that sells promotional items or that sells wedding favours and see what they might have to offer.
I found these simple bookmarkers that might suit the likes that you express are your fiance's. I thought they were cute and that you could again perhaps pair them with something else or give persons a set of 3 or so. They have alot of bookmarkers and items so don't write it off from the first page lol.
You can see these at: http://www.thefind.com/crafts/info-sports-bookmark#page=1&local=0

I also found this list @ cozy library with book themed ideas for book lovers and I figured that you can always adapt some of these into wedding favours.
See this site at: http://www.cozylibrary.com/default.aspx?id=420

I especially liked the action figure ideas with little figurines of shakespeare, edgar allen poe, jane austen and oscar wilde among others. those are at http://www.mcphee.com/categories/action.html

Well I hope those help a bit by either helping you find what you want or at least stimulating ideas on what you could do.

More than that though, I hope the wedding and the resulting marriage is a blessed one and also that both are successful.

ps. Love M's site and the bookmarks offered there!

You're not nuts, you're smart. I'm not even engaged yet and I'm planning my whole wedding (as much as I can save the actual booking and whatnot) because I want to enjoy my engagement.

I think you should put it in perspective. Most men understand that the wedding is their soon to be wife's day. Just hand him a piece of paper and say "look, this is all you have to do" (this should include typical groom stuff such as telling his men to get tuxes, picking out groomsmen, a best man, getting groomsmen gifts, and booking the honeymoon and the groom's cake). Give him a few months to do the "man" stuff.

Do the bride stuff and ask what he likes and doesn't like. Give him about 4 months on this. All the while save. In 4 months, set a date, see where you've come. Ask him what he thinks about the colors you picked out and blah blah blah and tell him what you think of the honeymoon. If he's surprising you let him.

I'd get small blank journals. I've seen hardback ones that were beautiful at the Dollar Store. Even if someone doesn't use it as a journal, all can use blank paper to write lists, notes, etc. You could get pretty bookmarks with tassels to place in them in your wedding colors or complimentary colors, if you like or just leave bookmark off. Or only have nice bookmarks as your favors with your last name initial or wedding date, etc. printed on them.
Love the theme! Enjoy the excitement and good luck!

Oriental Trading Company had good stuff - so does Wal Mart. Skip the favors & programs. Do it yourself D-J with your I-pod. Get a dress off the rack - or try David's when they have their big sale. Look for a photographer on Craig's List. There's lots of ways to save on weddings, just be creative - enlist friends to help you too. Also try OffBeat Bride.com - they have a DIY group on their "tribe"

I suggest something casual and small. Family might not be able to help financially, but ask them to make food or something. Get some disposable cameras, put them on seats with notes saying "we'd love to have you be our photographer, so please use this camera and capture us on our special day. Please make sure these pictures can be seen by children one day...lol". Make his daughters your attendants, or if one can sing, ask her to sing a song for both of you. Pick a color for your wedding and tell the girls to go buy a dress that color, doesn't have to be the same dress, just same color (that way if its a dress they like, they'll be able to wear it again). Music? I suggest asking someone to act as DJ, get everyone to "loan" CD's for the reception for music, just have someone there to change them out once in a while.

My wedding was paid for by me and hubby, so I know about tight budget. $3000 is all we spent, and I had 7 attendants and groomsmen, 13 boutineers, 9 bouquets, 8 corsages, a 3 tier cake, and my family and friends did the food as our gift. My dress was designer, but I lucked out and found the one I wanted in consignment store. My dress originally cost $2000, but at consignment store, I paid $350 (never worn either). My aunt made all my bridesmaid dresses as my gift from her. I spent $100 on material, thread, and accessories for 7 dresses for 7 girls. Not too bad.....

GL; and Congrats! I hope this helps!!

The Rose Garden (not the arena, but the park) is a beautiful place and I have seen numerous weddings there.

Are you willing to go outside of Portland? Perhaps Skamania Lodge or Multnomah Falls would be an option.

There is also a beautiful B&B that specializes in weddings on the hill in Camas. The great thing is that you can rent out the place for you, family, and friends and then have a beautiful ceremony and reception right there on site. The rehearsal dinner could be someplace like Roots, just down the hill and one of the better restaurants in the Portland area.

One of the parks next to the Columbia coud also probably be rented to accomodate a wedding - check both states for terms.

English Estates Winery in Vancouver/Camas does weddings as well. The grounds are pretty cool, as long as you don't look off the grounds.

Wine Country has some beautiful B&Bs that allow weddings - and the photos I've seen are great. Some of the wineries may even allow weddings and events - check out Anne Amie - their terrace is gorgeous.

Good luck to you!!

In my opinion...

1. Budget
2. Date/time of year
3. Who to invite & who to have in your wedding party
4. The location of the wedding
5. The theme or colors
6. Your dress
7. Your menu
