How do you plan a destination wedding?

Does it cost a lot more or is it less. How do you work out who comes? What/who do you have to pay for? We were thinking about doing a reception at home afterwards, is that a good idea? My fiance wants everyone who wants to come to be able to come so he is on the fence about a destination wedding. Is he right? I am having some difficulty being newly engaged and working out any details…

I had a destination wedding and so did my brother. His was at an all-inclusive resort and they had about 40 people who came total (most of which was my family). It was nice because we all could eat together and hang out on the beach without having to worry about money. The resort pretty much had a set plan in place for weddings so it was easy for them to plan. My wedding was in Florida and we had about 100 people fly down for it. It was a blast. Instead of it being a one day event it was 4-5 days of festivities. We planned meeting places each day for the guest, left sand buckets with beach towels, sunscreen, aloe, beach toys, and a list of places to eat and visit in their rooms. Most people just ended up making it part of their summer vacation. I don't think it was any more expensive then a wedding at home is (my sister did that). Depending on how you do it, the cost will vary greatly. I love destination weddings especially in a world where everyone is getting spread out and most people will have to travel to get to a wedding anyways, it may as well be a beach or somewhere nice. Good luck choosing.
